Zyphra, a research lab specializing in large-scale AI models, has officially unveiled ZUNA, a 380M-parameter foundation model designed explicitly for EEG data. This release marks a significant milestone in the brain-computer interface (BCI) sector, introducing a 'foundation model' approach to neural signal processing. ZUNA utilizes a masked diffusion auto-encoder architecture, enabling it to perform complex tasks such as channel infilling and super-resolution across various electrode layouts.
The model is being released under the permissive Apache-2.0 license, which includes open weights. This move allows developers and researchers to freely access and build upon the technology, potentially accelerating the development of noninvasive thought-to-text systems.
